Courier Export Restrictions Lifted by CBIC

TaxIntelHub · 06 April 2026

Effective April 1, 2026, CBIC removed the ₹10 lakh value cap on courier-based commercial exports to boost e-commerce.

Announced in the Union Budget 2026-27, this change aims to streamline imports/exports, ease logistics, and improve the ease of doing business in the e-commerce sector. The change was made via amendments to the Courier Imports and Exports (Clearance) Regulations, 1998, and the Courier Imports and Exports (Electronic Declaration and Processing) Regulations, 2010.

Benefits to MSMEs
Greater flexibility for MSMEs, startups, and artisans who can now ship higher-value consignments via courier.
Parity for e-commerce
Removes the previous disadvantage for e-commerce versus physical exports.
Streamlined returns
Introduces 'Return to Origin' for unclaimed goods held over 15 days, easing congestion.

The reform reduces transaction costs and improves logistics, making India more competitive in global e-commerce.
